Lisa Kenner Grissom is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and book writer whose work explores dynamic social issues, often through a female lens. She’s known for creating multi-layered characters, exploring the complexity of human emotions, and finding levity in discomfort. Selected full-length plays: HERE COMES THE NIGHT (Critically-acclaimed World Premiere production, Moving Arts Theatre; Semi-Finalist: O’Neill National Playwrights Conference; BAPF; Princess Grace; Winner: Award for Excellence in Writing, SheLA/NYC Arts); FOUR CHAMBERS (Winner: Kennedy Center Jean Kennedy Smith Award; O’Neill Finalist); MOTHERLAND (Jewish Plays Project Finalist). She has been a finalist or semi-finalist for American Blues Theater, The Ashland New Play Festival, The O’Neill, The Lark, PlayPenn, Playwrights’ Center, The Orchard Project, ScreenCraft, Princess Grace Fellowship, and The Heideman Award. Her short plays are published by Smith & Kraus. You can read more about her work on the New Play Exchange

Lisa also wrote/produced the award-winning short film, TATTOO YOU, based on her published one-act, which has been screened at 15+ film festivals nationally and internationally. A two-time O’Neill Kennedy Center Fellow, Lisa’s work has been developed/produced across the country. Since visiting Vilnius, Lithuania in 2019, Lisa has embarked on several projects including FOLLOWING FANIA, a documentary about the role of Jewish female resistance fighters, which closely aligns with the subject matter of VILNA: A RESISTANCE STORY, a new musical she is developing with composer/lyricist Kevin Cloud. In addition, her TV Pilot, FANIA IN THE FOREST, is a top 5 ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship Finalist. Lisa is also a proud member of The Playwrights Union, The Dramatist Guild, and Maestra. Originally from Boston with a bicoastal sensibility, Lisa is a graduate of Wesleyan University. lisakennergrissom.com

What People Are Saying

“

Lisa is a gifted playwright.

Her facility with crafting rich dialogue and complex characters combined with her commitment to challenging the status quo makes her a powerful voice in American theater.

“

Lisa's play and film, TATTOO YOU, masterfully uses the stressful situation of a high school reunion as the setting for an unflinching portrait of how bullying can impact both the victim and the perpetrator long after the abuse has ended. It forces us as an audience to consider our capacity for forgiveness, accountability and who is ultimately responsible for our individual and collective healing.

Lisa is a highly talented writer, and I can only imagine what amazing stories she has lined up for her next project.
